The pictures and letters were part of
my grandmother's effects and they completed my mother's cherished collected
memories of her father.
Richard Hesketh, grandson of Percival Richards, British administrator
and photographer.
As a child, I
remember being entranced by the few pictures we had, it was as if my "adventure
stories for boys" had somehow come alive and he brought the fantasy of pioneering
bravery into everyday reality. I still value his existence and think of him
with a fondness somehow disproportionate to my relationship with him. — Richard
